Overview

NLA updates members on issues of common interest including regulatory and legislative developments. NLA provides a forum to enhance and encourage the exchange of ideas and technical information common to the industry and to promote the use of lime and business interests of the lime industry.

NLA is comprised of U.S. and Canadian commercial lime companies, suppliers to lime companies, and foreign lime companies and trade associations. NLA’s members produce more than 98% of commercial lime, and more than 90% of all lime made from limestone in the U.S., and produce 100% of commercial lime in Canada. NLA does not represent the interests of captive lime manufacturers (e.g., sugar and paper).

NLA's activities center around common goals, with an emphasis on the following:

Advocacy

Over the years, NLA has proven to be a strong and effective advocate before Federal and state legislatures and regulatory agencies. NLA has led several successful initiatives with other associations and organizations to affect legislative outcomes. NLA actively participates in the development of regulations that affect the industry to ensure they are reasonable and practicable. As part of these legislative and regulatory efforts, NLA develops promotional materials demonstrating that lime strengthens the U.S. economy, and that its various applications provide substantial benefits to American consumers.

Compliance Assistance

NLA staff assists members with understanding and complying with applicable laws and regulations. In addition, NLA’s Environmental and Health and Safety Committee members (plant management and supervisors of U.S. and Canadian lime companies) exchange experiences and technical information to promote the health and safety of lime industry workers and facilitate compliance with applicable requirements.

Innovations for the Lime Industry

NLA’s Annual Meeting provides an opportunity for companies that supply goods and services to lime companies to network with industry CEOs and make presentations to the lime industry.  NLA’s LIMElites newsletter, published bi-monthly, profiles suppliers to the lime industry, and provides key industry news, as well as legislative and regulatory analysis to those who produce lime and those who provide vital goods and services to the lime industry.

Promotion and Research

NLA sponsors research to enhance members' ability to respond to market opportunities. It develops publications demonstrating the lime industry’s role as a progressive, responsible, and essential element in today's economy, particularly with regard to providing cost-effective solutions to environmental problems. Primarily through its website, NLA's publications are distributed worldwide, ranging from pamphlets providing basic information about the industry and its products, to technical publications on specific end uses of lime.
