The Port Inland plant is the newest of the Western Lime Corporation’s three plants. It is situated 20 miles Southeast of Manistique and primarily serves the paper, steel and mining industries in the upper Midwest and Canada.

Western Lime has been producing dolomitic quicklime at its Eden, Wisconsin plant since 1847. It began utilizing ship-delivered high calcium limestone in 1921 at its Green Bay plant. The opportunity arose to construct a plant on-site at a large Great Lakes quarry. Construction began during the fall of 2005 and this new plant was commissioned in May of 2007.

The Port Inland plant is one of the newest greenfield lime plants in North America. It is staffed by 25 employees. Western Lime is very proud of the fact that these people, new to the lime industry, have gone through plant commissioning and a full year of operation with no MSHA reportable injuries.
